Event Terminology
A quick definitions guide to the common swimming terms.
- PB (Personal Best)
- The fastest time a swimmer has ever officially recorded in a specific stroke and distance.
- DQ (Disqualification)
- When a swimmer violates a stroke, turn, or start rule, resulting in their time being invalidated for that event.
- Heat
- A single race within an event. Events with many swimmers are broken down into multiple heats, usually seeded by entry times.
- Short Course (SC)
- A swimming pool that is 25 meters in length.
- Long Course (LC)
- A swimming pool that is 50 meters in length (Olympic size).
